Daniel Dubois threatens to headbutt Oleksandr Usyk in heavyweight title scrap

Daniel Dubois has threatened to throw headbutts and knees in a potentially scrappy heavyweight title fight should it mean getting the job done against Oleksandr Usyk this Saturday.

The Brit is heading to Poland to take on the unbeaten Usyk in a mandatory defence of his WBA super title, with the WBO and IBF belts on the line as well as the less prestigious IBO strap. And he feels that he may need to get dirty with the former cruiserweight champion in order to impose his size and bring the belts back to the UK.

Dubois is a massive underdog for the fight, having won his regular title from the ageing Trevor Bryan before scraping by a defence against Kevin Lerena back in December. He has already lost as a professional, being stopped with an eye injury by Joe Joyce back in 2020.

But he is willing to get the win no matter what on Saturday, telling Seconds Out: "How does it end? Win by any means necessary. I know you guys are pushing for [a headline] but my mentality is to win by any means necessary; headbutt, knees, whatever I need is alright."

He has admitted that earning a points decision as the away fighter against an unbeaten multiple-weight world champion and Olympic gold medalist will be a difficult feat. But he is confident that he can get it done and reclaim the titles that Usyk took from Anthony Joshua back in September of 2021.

Asked if he feels a knockout is his sole path to victory, he responded by admitting "that's what they say," before adding that it is "by any means necessary, however you have to do it, that's all I'm worried about. I'm only 25 but I've been doing this a while since 11 with all my amateur experience."

"I've been doing it properly," he continued. "I've won every time I've stepped up, every test I've been in I've come through - that amateur style with footwork and all of that it's no secret we have to go in there and make it a rough fight, go in there and bully him so that's what we'll do."
