The Buffalo Bills might have made an astute signing with Ty Johnson after his incident with their division rival this offseason.

Earlier this year, the New York Jets re-signed the running back to a one-year deal after he played with them in 2022 as a backup.

After being resigned, the Jets surprisingly released Johnson with a "non-football injury" designation.

At the time, no further explanation was given as to why Johnson was released from the team. But days later, he revealed that the team made him have surgery - even though he wished not to - before releasing him.

Johnson was devastated by the team's decision to cut him, admitting that he had struggled with the nature of the release.

He said: "I’ve had some dark, dark days, man. I went to New York and told them about the injury. I flew out the next day to get surgery. I came back happy that I got it done, even though I didn’t want to get it done. That following Wednesday, you’re outta there. I was like ... damn."

Johnson was not the only player to be disappointed with the team, as starting cornerback DJ Reed criticised the decision of the team to cut him.

NFL running back given chance for revenge after signing with Buffalo BillsJohnson will now likely look to exact his revenge when he faces the Jets this season

But the running back will now have the perfect opportunity to get some revenge on the Jets, after he has signed with their division rival Bills.

Johnson will now face New York twice this upcoming season and could earn a legitimate role as the third-down back while also returning punts and kick-offs after the team lost Nyheim Hines to a bizarre season-ending injury.

Hines had been in Mexico on the final day of his holiday before he was set to return to the Bills for training camp. While he was stationary on a jet ski, another struck him at high speed. He tore his ACL - and will miss the 2023 year.

The Bills were expected to use him in a multi-faceted role in 2023, with both kick return and running back duties in store, which Johnson could now take after signing.

The team missed out on Dalvin Cook, who had been reported to have interest from the team where his brother, James, plays - instead joining the Jets.
