A 55-year-old nanny who worked for American Idol star Katharine McPhee and her husband David Foster was killed after being run over at a car dealership, according to reports.

The nanny, Yadira Calito, is said to have died after being ran over by an elderly woman at a Toyota dealership in Los Angeles last week. Yadira was pinned under the SUV and dragged for 20 feet in the horrific accident.

Police have confirmed the driver of the vehicle accelerated forward for "unknown reasons" and "collided with several people" who were inside the dealership. The collision caused injuries to two employees and a customer.

Paramedics responded to the scene and transported them to hospital. The driver of the vehicle was not injured during the collision.

According to a report shared by the Los Angeles police department on Twitter, the customer was pronounced dead at the hospital. They said the driver of the SUV was an 84-year-old woman.

Police said this is an ongoing investigation and no arrests have been made so far. They urged drivers to travel with "due care, free of distractions" and to remain mindful of "potential hazards".

While the press release didn't name the woman who was killed, a source has told TMZ that it was Yadira Calito. They also explained that the elderly driver had been taking her car in for a service when she hit the gas pedal instead of the breaks.

Katharine, who was on tour in Asia with her husband, announced that she would be cancelling her final two shows following the tragic accident. In a statement, she said she would be missing the performances due to a "horrible tragedy in the family".

Taking to Instagram, she said: "It's with a heavy heart I announce I have to miss our final 2 shows of our Asia run. The singer continued: "David and I have had a horrible horrible tragedy in our family and at least one of us need to get back home to our family."

Katharine apologised to her fans and said she hopes to "return one day and perform for you all". She has yet to speak out on the new details of the incident.
