Batches of a posh granola have been removed from UK shelves after fears boxes may contain stones.

Rude Health's Low Sugar Almond and Hazelnut Granola boxes have been slapped with "do not eat" stickers after it transpired there may be small bits of stone. The trendy cereal for the health-conscious is currently stocked in Tesco, Waitrose, Booths and by Ocado and independent health stores, but some batches have been held temporarily following the food safety watchdog warning.

The Food Standards Agency said the potential presence of stones rendered it unsafe to eat, with three batches dating back to April having been recalled. Customers who bought boxes with best before dates of April 17, May 11 and June 12 2024 can return them for a full refund.

Boxes with any other date are fine to eat, the watchdog said. An FSA spokesperson said: "This product may contain small stones which could be a choking hazard and could possibly cause harm if bitten. This makes it unsafe to eat."

The spokesperson added: "Rude Health Foods is recalling the above product. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product. "

As well as being vegan, the 400g boxes are marketed for the sugar-conscious, containing just 2g of the sweet stuff per serving. A description on the health food brand's site reads: "There’s so much texture and flavour that you won’t notice that we’ve taken out some of the sweet stuff.

"Don’t worry, there’s nothing artificial replacing it, just Mediterranean Almonds and Turkish Hazelnuts, baked with our oats for a satisfying delicious crunch." It comes after a warning was issued to Home Bargains customers earlier this month over the sale of table salt which the FSA said may contain tiny pieces of plastic.

Dri Pak recalled its Dri Pak Table Salt on Wednesday, with the possible presence of microplastics rendering it unsafe. Batches 3205 and 3206 of the salt, which is only sold in Home Bargains, can returned for refunds, the FSA said.

Doughnut brand Krispy Kreme meanwhile halted sales of its white chocolate and raspberry summer doughnuts this month after fears there may be peanuts in some batches. A manufacturing error meant some of the four-packs accidentally packed with two Reese's peanut butter doughnuts instead, which could be extremely hazardous for people with severe peanut allergies.
