A boy, aged five, "loved by so many" has tragically died in a quad bike accident in Ireland.

Emergency services and police rushed to a property in Kerry but could not save youngster George Francis Freddie Davenport, from Folkestone who died on August 6. Heartfelt tributes have been pouring in for George and his grieving family.

"Such a precious little boy who was loved by so many," one person wrote, while one mum said: "Heaven has a beautiful angel may God give you strength to cope with the loss of your beautiful boy thinking of you at this tough time. He is the brightest star shining in the sky tonight, George will guide you in the days and weeks to come, rest in peace George."

It is understood that family liaison officers have been appointed to the family to help them come to terms with the tragedy. A postmortem examination was carried out at the University Hospital Kerry.

George's funeral notice reads: "George Francis Freddie Davenport, Folkestone, Kent and Liscarney, Cloghane, Tralee, Co. Kerry, died on August 6th, unexpectedly, aged 5 years. Sadly missed by his heartbroken family, his parents, brothers and sister, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family, relatives and friends. Fly with the Angels."

His funeral took place in Kerry on Wednesday. "I don't know you personally but as a father of three young boys , I want to offer you my sincere condolences for the loss of your perfect little boy. I will say a prayer for you all during this difficult time. May little George Rest In Peace," one Cork father wrote in another tribute.

A further said: "You touched the hearts of so many, without realising, with your beautiful smile and gorgeous soul. How lucky are we to have laughed, played and made so many happy memories with you. You are in our thoughts and prayers."

And a Kerry mother and grandmother, wrote: "I'm so very sorry on the loss of your dear little boy, I have a grandson his age and I can only imagine the pain felt in your hearts .. I'm sure he is with the angels and will always be close to you all in your hearts until your time to rejoin him comes."

Local councillor Michael O'Shea told the Mail the community is "deeply shocked and saddened" by what happened with the boy's family "very well known and respected here" adding: "There's not a lot you can say when something like this happens; it's just one of these unforeseen accidents... My deepest sympathies go to everyone affected."
