Beyoncé fans say they know why star chose Tottenham for tour as clip resurfaces
After seven years, Beyoncé is back with another world tour. While thousands of fans scramble to try and secure tickets to the UK leg of her tour, others have been left wondering about her choice of venues.
Specifically, why the star is performing at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, as well as Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Murrayfield in Edinburgh, and the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.
A renowned venue, Tottenham makes a practical choice, but fans suspect there might have been an emotional reason behind Queen Bey's pick. As one savvy social media user pointed out, Beyoncé has something of a history with the club.
Once upon a time, she was delighted to hear its name in an English media interview in 2006. In a clip promoting Dreamgirls, the singer laughs along with her interviewer after he struck up a chat about football.
The hilarious exchange came about after the footie fan mentioned a match between Arsenal and Tottenham. Hilariously, the duo then go back and forth in the video, as Beyoncé attempts to pronounce both teams' names, but doesn't quite get there.
Viral sausage roll debate leaves Brits confused about how to order at GreggsHesitant, apparently worried she's being tricked into saying a curse word, she calls Arsenal 'Arsenum'. Meanwhile, the interviewer jokingly criticises the way she said Tottenham.
"I didn't say it like that," he laughs, prompting the American star to try again in her best English accent.
Flash forward to 2023 and fans are convinced the interview is the reason she picked the venue after the video recirculated online. "Beyoncé picked tottenham stadium over a million other UK locations because of this one interview," claimed @clmdls in a tweet that has since been viewed over 600,000 times.
Convinced, one fan replied: "What a full circle moment." A second said: "The 1st thing I thought of when I saw the London location." And another added: "She has to play this on the screens before she comes out!!!" Meanwhile, a different commenter said: "Imagine when she says 'Tottenham, welcome to the renaissance world tour' lmaoo."
