PS5 beta sign up – how to preview the latest firmware updates from Sony
New PS5 beta firmware has been released, here's how you can sign up for the programme and hopefully be included in the next beta drop.
Sony offers PS5 owners a chance to test the latest PlayStation firmware updates with the 'PS5 System Software Beta Program'. Selected players will be sent a code to redeem on their system upon the release of new beta firmware, which will allow them to preview the new PS5 features ahead of the update's official widespread release.
The latest PS5 Beta is giving players the chance to preview 3D audio support for Dolby Atmos-enabled tech, 8TB storage expansion support, and a host of brand-new accessibility and quality-of-life features like haptic feedback in the menus, to assist those with sight or hearing difficulties, as well as the 'I can't believe it took them this long' ability to search your game library.
Luckily, the codes seem to be given out at random, so you won't have a worse chance of being selected if you signed up later than other players. However, there's no guarantee you'll be selected by Sony for a specific PS5 beta, so if you miss out this time, you'll just have to wait and see for the next one.
How to sign up for PS5 beta firmware
Signing up for PS5 beta firmware is actually reasonably simple, although as we mentioned above, the beta firmware is only available in the UK, the US, France, Canada, Germany and Japan. You must also be over 18 years old and have a PlayStation account in good standing to participate in the beta. You're also expected to provide feedback to Sony after your beta participation.
PSVR 2 is already losing to the Meta Quest 2 in the VR headset battleIf you want to sign up for the beta you'll just need to follow these instructions:
- Go to the PS5 beta signup page
- Log in with your PSN account
- Scroll to the bottom and click 'Register'
And that's it! You've signed up and simply have to wait until you're chosen to participate.
How to get PS5 beta firmware
Once you've been chosen by Sony you should receive email confirmation, with the email containing a code to redeem so that you can access it. After that, simply head onto your PS5 console and follow these steps:
- Open Settings
- Select System
- Select System Software
- Select System Software Update and Settings
- Select Update System Software (beta)
You won't see that final option unless you've been selected by Sony and have redeemed the code, but if it's not there after you redeem it, try restarting your console. If that doesn't work, you'll need to get in contact with PlayStation support.
