Lily Allen slams 'spineless' people in scathing rant about Sinead O'Connor tributes

Lily Allen furiously called out the 'spineless' tributes to Sinead O'Connor following her shocking death aged 56. Fans and celebrities rushed to pay tribute to the Irish singer when her death was announced last week.

On July 26, Sinead's family said they were 'devastated' over the singing icon's passing, writing in a heartbreaking statement: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

Celebrities, including Piers Morgan, Conor McGregor and more, reminisced about the open and honest singer as they paid tribute to her and discussed her legacy and beliefs. However, some of the tributes didn't impress Smile singer Lily, 38, who took to her social media to call out the 'spineless' messages honouring Sinead and claimed the same people would never 'align themselves with anybody who stood for something' in life.

"It’s hard not to feel incensed when there are so many people posting about Sinead and how fearless she was, people who would never in a million years align themselves with anybody who stood for something or had anything remotely controversial to say," Lily wrote. "It’s so spineless. If you can’t stand up for people in life don’t do it in death. It’s also troubling that people have seemingly felt so empathetic towards her but didn’t feel that they could show it or express it for some reason. until they died. what does that say about us?"

The Not Fair singer wasn't the only celebrity who thought some of the tributes were hypocritical as Morrissey, 64, recently released a scathing statement asking 'where was the support for her while she was still alive'. Sharing a post called You Know I Couldn't Last, the musician wrote: "She was dropped by her label after selling 7 million albums for them. She became crazed, yes, but uninteresting, never. She had done nothing wrong.

"She had proud vulnerability and there is a certain music industry hatred for singers who don't 'fit in' (this I know only too well), and they are never praised until death - when, finally, they can't answer back. You praise her now ONLY because it is too late. You hadn't the guts to support her when she was alive and she was looking for you."

The furious music star continued on as he compared Sinead's death to those of other tragic female stars including Amy Winehouse, Whitney Houston, and Judy Garland. The musician added: "Why is ANYBODY surprised that Sinead O'Connor is dead? Who cared enough to save Judy Garland, Whitney Houston, Amy Winehouse, Marilyn Monroe, Billie Holiday? Where do you go when death can be the best outcome? Was this music madness worth Sinead's life?

"No, it wasn't. She was a challenge, and she couldn't be boxed-up, and she had the courage to speak when everyone else stayed safely silent. She was harassed simply for being herself. Her eyes finally closed in search of a soul she could call her own."
