The Dallas Cowboys have been told that they should consider trading quarterback Dak Prescott should they able to acquire a top draft pick after recent news had emerged.

NFL reporter Mike Fisher has reported that the Cowboys have interest in Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, who is likely to be taken with a top five pick in this year's NFL draft.

Prescott has been one of the better quarterbacks in the league since 2016 after he won the starting spot when Cowboys legend Tony Romo retired.

But although mostly impressing, he has had difficult moments in his time, too, often struggling in big game situations and making critical errors, whilst being labelled as 'turnover prone'.

Prescott signed a four-year, $160million deal with the Cowboys just two years ago, but Dallas could look to shed a large portion of that money by trading him away, should they receive a top draft pick in this years class.

It's a quarterback heavy draft this April, with Bryce Young (Alabama), Will Levis (Kentucky) and Anthony Richardson (Florida) all potentially being taken in the top 10 pick. But with Dallas not scheduled to be picking until later in the first-round, they would have to make some sacrifices to do so.

Wright said: "Mike Fisher has reported that the Cowboys are intrigued by CJ Stroud. I have no unique reporting on this, and I have learned my lesson on trying to tell you which quarterbacks are going to be great...

"But here is what I will say, the Cowboys being intrigued by CJ Stroud should not be disregarded but we should be specific on how they could acquire him in that they would have to trade Dak Prescott for the pick.

"If the Cowboys really want him, they would have to call up Houston and try and trade Dak for that number 2 pick. It's not crazy to do that if you really like CJ Stroud - to go from a $50million quarterback to $8million quarterback might not be a bad idea."

Stroud proved to be an extremely accurate passer in his two years as a starter at Ohio State, and could be the pocket passer that head coach Mike McCarthy will look for.

McCarthy is set to take over play-calling duties after the Cowboys fired offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, who has since joined the Los Angeles Chargers and will call plays for Justin Herbert.
