Music star Jay-Z is reportedly plotting a bid to take over Tottenham Hotspur, after current owner J oe Lewis was accused of insider trading.

Spurs owner Lewis has been charged with conducting an insider trading scheme by prosecutors in America, and if found guilty would be forced to give up his ownership of the club per Premier League rules. And on the back of the charges it appears Jay-Z is waiting in the wings to come in.

The American rapper has previously opened up on his interest to invest in a Premier League club. Speaking back in 2010, he said: "I don’t know a lot about the business of soccer, but in the future if the right opportunity presented itself, then who knows?

"I am a businessman, and I will always look at an opportunity, and if it feels right great."

This interest was, however, reported at the time to be in Spurs' great rivals Arsenal, having previously revealed his allegiances lie with the Gunners when it comes to football.

Speaking to Arsenal Magazinein 2010, he said: "The press started reporting that I was a Manchester City fan, I am really glad all that has been cleared up and that everybody in the UK knows that I am an Arsenal fan. If there are [any fans in the Arsenal squad] they would be more than welcome to come to my next concert when I am over in London.

"They can come and see me do my work, and then I will come and see them do their work." According to Express Sport US though, Jay-Z is ready to work with other side of North London.

Per the report, one of the rapper's 'associates' said: "More than a few of the very top clubs there – like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea – are now under US ownership and Jay would jump at the chance of a controlling interest at board level somewhere with the global reach of Spurs.

“It remains to be seen whether Mr. Lewis will walk away free. If he doesn’t, Jay has said he wants to be in a position to move quickly if he feels the price is right.” Of course, Jay-Z's takeover chances will centre around the case against 86-year-old Lewis.

Lewis has 16 counts of security fraud and three counts of conspiracy against his name, which allegedly occurred between 2013 and 2021. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail.
