Jodie Whittaker has landed her first TV role since quitting Doctor Who.

The star has jetted off to Australia for her latest acting role as she is set to appear in a six part Paramount+ drama.

The 40-year-old quit her role on Doctor Who after making history by playing the first ever female Time Lord.

Her final episode aired last October and ended with her bursting into a ball of yellow light to regenerate.

However, the star is now taking on a new challenge starring in One Night.

Paramount describes the drama as: "The story of three women whose bond was all but destroyed by the traumatic events of one night 20 years ago."

Producers Ian Collie, Rob Gibson and Ally Henville of Easy Tiger said: "One Night is a gripping, character-driven mystery that explores the boundaries of friendship, and questions our understanding of memory, trauma, and storytelling itself, all set against the majestic beauty of the south coast of New South Wales."

Jodie joined the Doctor Who cast back in 2017 after being cast by Chris Chibnall.

She took over the role from Peter Capaldi who played the Doctor from 2013 to 2017.

However, Jodie's official Doctor Who exit statement was released in 2021 after rumours that she would be leaving.

Jodie said: "In 2017 I opened my glorious gift box of size 13 shoes. I could not have guessed the brilliant adventures, worlds and wonders I was to see in them.

"My heart is so full of love for this show, for the team who make it, for the fans who watch it and for what it has brought to my life. And I cannot thank Chris enough for entrusting me with his incredible stories. We knew that we wanted to ride this wave side by side, and pass on the baton together.

"So here we are, weeks away from wrapping on the best job I have ever had. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express what this role has given me. I will carry the Doctor and the lessons I’ve learnt forever.

"I know change can be scary and none of us know what’s out there. That’s why we keep looking. Travel Hopefully. The Universe will surprise you. Constantly."
