Castleford Tigers have signed Papua New Guinea international Liam Horne until the end of 2024.

Horne, 26, has been playing for Brisbane outfit Norths Devils but moves to the UK to strengthen the Super League club’s bid to avoid relegation. Equally at home at full-back, hooker, centre and loose forward, he offers Castleford boss Andy Last plenty of versatility. Horne has scored nine tries in 14 matches for the Queensland Cup club this season and featured with PNG against Fiji last year.

Last, who last week signed Alex Foster and Billy Tsikrikas, said: “Liam is an explosive player with good leg speed and versatility. He is comfortable at nine or 13 and has played centre and in the spine. His running game and agility make him a really dynamic player which at this time of year will be a real asset for us.

“We are looking forward to welcoming him into our group and improving the competition within our squad on a day-to-day basis.”

Elsewhere, bottom-placed Wakefield - who trail Castleford by just two points - have made their own signing.

They have recruited Huddersfield winger Innes Senior on loan until the end of the season.

It is the fourth time Senior, 23, has joined Trinity and he could feature for them against Warrington on Sunday.

He said: "I want to make a positive impact on my return and bring lots of energy and effort with me,"
