Sunday Brunch fans were baffled today when a whopping nine guests were packed around the table.

The Channel 4 culinary show was presented as usual by Simon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy, who had their work cut out interviewing the sizeable panel.

Joining them in the studio were Romesh Ranganathan, Alex James, Shaparak Khorsandi, Shirlie Kemp, Pepsi Demacque, Neil Morrissey, Alison Mitchell and band The Lottery Winners.

In addition, British actress Vivian Oparah was also scheduled to appear on the programme.

As the guests were sat like sardines quaffing wine at 10.00 am, one viewer tweeted: "I don't think there is enough guests?"

Another said: "I don't think they have enough guests on today." While a third suggested: "Think they need a bigger table."

Meanwhile another viewer joked: "Should have booked Les Dennis as well for today's lineup."

However, another fan was impressed with the number of guests as they tweeted: "Should be a good show today with those guests..."

Viewers later took to Twitter lamenting the loss of popular segment, spot the banana, on the show.

Host Tim announced at the start of the programme fans would have one have last chance to guess where the fruit was in the studio before the concept was canned.

Flocking to the comments section, viewers shared their thoughts on where the mystery banana was - with some stating they didn't want the segment to be cancelled.

One Instagram user wrote: "It’s on the shelf behind Tim’s right shoulder, above the microwave! Don’t cancel this, can’t wait for the second series!"

While another penned: "I guess you ran out of places to hide the banana or someone just couldn’t be a***d! Lol. Goodbye mystery Banana."

Fans were delighted to see chef Simon return to the show last week following the sad news his dad, Peter, had died aged 89.

Last week, he took to social media, saying: "It is back to work for me today, after what has been probably one of the most difficult weeks of my life.

He also said: "I just wanted to say a massive heartfelt message and personal thanks to every single member of staff at Arrow Park Hospital for the way Dad was looked after last week.

"And us as a family. Every single second we were made to feel the most important people on the planet."

The Channel 4 favourite announced the news of his dad's passing alongside a photo of the pair of them with the caption: "It’s with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my hero, my dad Peter."

Simon previously revealed he was just nine-years-old when his father was diagnosed with cancer and was initially told he had very little chance of survival.
