When you marry someone, you usually become part of their family. Their parents become your in-laws, and even those who don't particularly enjoy meeting them still usually do for big occasions such as Christmas and birthdays.

However, one woman has avoided meeting her husband's family for 15 years, and hasn't even spoken to them on video chat - and even though her partner wants her to, she refuses.

In a recent post on parenting forum Mumsnet, the woman explained: "I have never met nor appeared on video chat with my family-in-law." Clarifying, she added that she did actually appear on video chat to say "hello" once to his mum, before disappearing.

She continued: "They've also witnessed me trying to pass by without being noticed, walking on my knees."

According to the anonymous woman, it hasn't been a problem in their relationship so far, as when they've asked to see her, her husband has always made up an excuse. However, lately his siblings have continued to "pester him" about speaking to her, or at least share a picture of his wife. She added: "I've refused so far."

However, now her husband has said "it's time" to speak to them in a bid to keep his siblings from messaging about it so often, but she doesn't want to. She added: "I hate appearing on film and would have no idea what to say. I feel the fact it's gone on so long just makes it seem even weirder to suddenly decide to talk to them."

The woman asked fellow forum-users whether she was being "unreasonable" - and it turned out most did.

One user wrote: "Yes you're being really weird," while another added: "Yes, you are the most unreasonable of unreasonable people on unreasonable day in unreasonable land."

A third commented: "15 years and you've never said hello to them? I find that strange. It seems natural to introduce yourself and make an effort to be part of your [husband's] family."
