Bodycam footage shows the moment police in Florida called a white woman accused of killing a black mum of four a "psycho."

Susan Lorincz, 58, called the police to complain about Ajike Owens' supposedly noisy children. She is accused of shooting Owens and has been charged with one count of manslaughter with a firearm and one count of assault.

Owens was shot dead through a closed door in June when she knocked on Lorincz's door to confront her over her allegedly shouting at her children, throwing an iPad at them and using racial slurs.

Lorincz claimed she was scared for her life.

In the months preceding the shooting, Lorincz became upset with the children when they began playing near her apartment. Owen had four children aged 12, 9, 7 and 3 and Lorincz said she had been bothered by them for two years.

Police said Lorincz called them around a dozen times before the shooting.

In the bodycam footage from months before the death of Owens, Lorincz can be heard saying "I just can’t hear my clients" when the children were playing and "that's not fair to me."

She claimed Owen threw a sign that read "no trespassing" at her before one deputy branded her a "psycho."

Lorincz said of the children: "I don’t want to be intimidated by them calling me bitch, calling me ‘Karen.'"

“Honestly I think she has a mental disorder,” Owens is heard telling officers in the footage.

A neighbour told officers: "She is literally crazy. All they do is play football over there. She yells at them and when an adult says something she calls the police."

Lorincz's opinion of the neighbours is that they were "hooligans."

Family members of Owens have called for Lorincz to be charged with murder.

Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods, who ordered her arrest, said: "If she gets any attorneys, I don’t care what that attorney says, I don’t care what that attorney presents to the court, for me and my detectives, this was an unjustified shooting, clear."

State Attorney William Gladson said his office contemplated filing a second-degree murder charge but that prosecutors concluded there was insufficient evidence that Lorincz had “hatred, spite, ill will or evil intent” toward Owens.

“As deplorable as the defendant's actions were in this case, there is insufficient evidence to prove this specific and required element of second-degree murder," Gladson said in a statement. “I am aware of the desire of the family, and some community members, that the defendant be charged with second-degree murder. My obligation as State Attorney is to follow the law in each case that I prosecute.”

If convicted, Lorincz faces up to 30 years in prison. Amanda Sizemore, Lorincz's attorney from the public defender's office, said she had no comment at this time.

Anthony Thomas, an attorney for Owens' family, said the decision against filing a second-degree murder charge was disappointing.

“We firmly believe that justice demands nothing less,” Thomas said in a statement. “The failure of the prosecutor to charge Susan with what truly reflected her wanton, reckless behavior undermines our ability to even get real accountability.”
