There's less than three weeks to go until the Women's World Cup gets underway in Australia and New Zealand, but England have failed to score in their final game in preparation for this summer's tournament.

The Lionesses are taking on fellow World Cup nation Portugal in a send-off game at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes, with both sides eager to get some game time under their belts ahead of the trip down under. This afternoon's clash is England's first outing since their 2-0 defeat to Australia in April - the only time the Lionesses have been beaten during Sarina Wiegman's tenure.

England took the early chances through Rachel Daly who got in front of goal within the first five minutes but her headers lacked the power to put them in front. The Lionesses made three changes at half time as they continued to search for an opener in a game where they are already more than 200 minutes without a goal.

England last faced Portugal in October 2019, when Beth Mead struck the only goal of the game to clinch victory for the visitors in Setubal. The two sides also met in the EURO 2017 group stage in the Netherlands, winning 2-1 thanks to goals from Toni Duggan and Nikita Parris.

While Francisco Neto's side put in a disappointing display at last year's EUROs, Portugal will be keen to lay down a marker ahead of their first World Cup this summer. The game kicks off at 3.15pm [BST] and will be broadcast live on ITV 1 and ITVX.

Lionesses have defensive decisions to make

The Lionesses faced Portugal in a friendly match prior to them flying out to Australia at a sold-out Stadium MK which gave some well-needed minutes under the belts of players.

But, Sarina Wiegman still has some big decisions to make ahead of the England's first World Cup game in three weeks time.

Read about the main talking points in the final send-off for England's Lionesses here.

FULL-TIME

England 0-0 Portugal

That's that then. England's final game on home soil before the World Cup ends in a draw. The Lionesses will take on Canada in a behind-closed-doors friendly ahead of their opening group game against Haiti, but Sarina Wiegman will be slightly disappointed not to have gotten the win today. Credit to Portugal though, they've defended really well.

England will have to find new ways to break down similarly stubborn opposition in the weeks to come.

England getting closer...

England 0-0 Portugal

62': It really does feel like an England breakthrough isn't too far away. It's Bronze who goes close this time, hitting the post with her header after Stanway's excellent corner delivery.

Russo drags her shot wide moments later.

Half time analysis

This just in from Hannah Pinnock at Stadium MK:

England have looked pretty rusty so far, only a handful of chances through Rachel Daly and Stanway struck the bar just before the break. Portugal are sitting deep and look dangerous on the counter attack, England are just struggling to break them down. A solid test ahead of the tournament, but Sarina Wiegman's team will need to show a lot more second half if they're to get something from this game. A good run out, nonetheless.

Are these England's World Cup squad numbers?

It's exactly three weeks until England's Women's World Cup campaign gets underway, with the Lionesses set to take on Haiti in Brisbane on July 22.

While anticipation is building for this summer's showpiece tournament, fans are still none the wiser as to which number each player will be wearing on the back of their shirt. However, today's clash with Portugal might just have offered up some clues.

HALF-TIME

The whistle has gone for the end of the first 45 and it's England who have had the most chances.

Earps hasn't had a huge amount to do but Portugal still aren't giving England much room to get power behind the ball.

CLOSE!

England 0-0 Portugal

45': Georgia Stanway almost makes the breakthrough on the stroke of half time. The midfielder clips the crossbar after a lovely delivery from Lauren Hemp.

A bit of England ring rust?

England 0-0 Portugal

34': It's been a bit of a disjointed first half for England so far. Lucy Bronze does well to find Lauren James whose delivery is a fraction too high for Rachel Daly. A Portugal touch takes it off the toe of Lauren Hemp and nothing comes of the subsequent corner. Some promising signs for the Lionesses but they're missing that cutting edge.

England corner

England 0-0 Portugal

22': Lauren James wins England a corner which is played short by Alex Greenwood. The ball finds its way to Keira Walsh who puts too much on her delievery into the box.

Toone fires wide

England 0-0 Portugal

18': Ella Toone picks the ball up in the middle of the park and is urged to shoot from just outside the box but she drags her effort just wide of the post.

Daly a handful

England 0-0 Portugal

16': Rachel Daly is such a nuisance. She finds a pocket of space in between the Portugese centre backs and almost connects with Lauren James' ball into the box.

CHANCE!

England 0-0 Portugal

5': England's first real chance of the game. It's a gorgeous delivery from Lauren Hemp who picks out Rachel Daly in the penalty area. The Aston Villa striker directs her header goalwards but Pereira scrambles it to safety.

Ahead of today's friendly against Portugal, Sarina Wiegman spoke about England first loss in her tenure against Australia.

“I dont think there is complacency in this team, I think for us it was also, sounds strange, but good to lose a game because then you really feel the urge to do a couple things better and now the World Cup is right in front of us and we really want to perform too.”

'Thousands of fans' queueing

It's not a good look outside Stadium MK right now. The match today is completely sold-out but it seems most of the fans are still outside the stadium.
