'My wife is fuming our daughter took first steps with me - but I encouraged it'

When you've got a baby, you'll know how important it is to note down all the little milestones your bundle of joy achieves - and if you miss any, you'll be absolutely gutted.
From smiling to their first word, walking to giggling, you'll want to take all the amazing moments in with those closest to you - because they're so special.
But how would you feel if your partner had encouraged your baby to reach a milestone without you being present?
One woman was left furious after her husband "encouraged" their almost 11-month-old daughter to walk independently, "taking her first steps" whilst she napped - and she was devastated to miss the moment.

He took to Reddit to ask whether he was in the wrong, writing: "Me (27M) and my wife (26F), recently had a baby a little while ago.

"My wife was taking a nap and I had the responsibility of watching the baby. So I was sitting on the floor with our daughter, and she was playing and she tried to stand up.
"I encouraged her and she stood up on her own. She started walking, taking her first steps, and I started clapping and congratulating her. I stood up and picked her up and spun us around and my wife woke up and came in and asked what was going on.
"When I told her what happened she called me an a**hole for not waiting for her to be awake to encourage our daughter to start walking. Am I the a**hole?"
In the comments, people understood why the mum may be frustrated, but said it wasn't worth getting upset over.
One wrote: "As a father of five, I can tell you there will be plenty of 'firsts' to go around. Some you miss, some you don't. I get the impression this is a first child, so just wait until the first word comes out.
"I kind of wonder how she'll react if (more when) that first word is da/dada/dad because it's much easier to say (and other science-y nonsense). I hope for your sake her head doesn't explode!".
Another said: "Not the a**hole, but don't dismiss your wife's feelings over this (not saying you are) because the first step, first word, first everything is something that every parent looks forward to, and knowing you missed it is difficult."
"These moments happen when they happen", someone reassured. "Congrats on your baby's milestone!"
