Foo Fighters are set to make a surprise appearance at Glastonbury this weekend, according to reports.

The American rock band – fronted by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl – are reportedly taking to the Pyramid stage at 6.10pm on Friday evening.

The slot is currently being held by a mysterious act called The Churnups, which was previously believed to have referred to band Pulp.

It comes a year after Dave Grohl took to the Pyramid stage for a surprise appearance during Paul McCartney's headline set.

Legendary artist David Hockney is also believed to have done the graphics for the band's performance, as they perform some of their greatest hits at the Worthy Farm music festival to hundreds of thousands of festival goers.

Now, the Daily Mail claims the group are set to make an emotional performance at the gig after the death of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins.

Last month the chart topping band returned to touring after Hawkin's shock death. They also released an emotional album titled But Here We Are dedicated to his memory.

50-year-old Hawkins was found dead last year in his luxury hotel room from a 'cardiovascular collapse' believed to be induced by a drug binge whilst the band was on tour in Columbia.

New drummer Josh Freese is taking his place as the band continue to make music and perform for fans.

Savvy fans had suspected that the mystery act The Churnups could be a huge music act with some guesses speculating it could be Blur or Pulp, with Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl adding fuel to the fire after teasing fans with a message on social media referring to "churning up" emotions.

The message read: "Hey, it’s been a while. Now that we’ve returned from our first run of shows, I felt compelled to reach out and thank you all for being there for us.

"Every night, when I see you singing, it makes me sing harder,” Grohl writes. “When I see you screaming, it makes me scream louder. When I see your tears, it brings me to tears. And when I see your joy, it brings me joy.”

"But I see you… and it feels good to see you, churning up these emotions together. Because we’ve always done this together. Time and Again. See you soon. Dave."

The Pyramid stage has previously played host to artists including The Rolling Stones, Jay-Z, Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash and Oasis.
