Jurgen Klopp could soon be on the hunt for a new right-back after the decision to allow Calvin Ramsay to leave Liverpool.
The former Aberdeen full-back was confirmed to have joined Championship side Preston North End on a season-long loan deal on Tuesday. Speaking after the temporary switch was made official, the youngster said: “I’m delighted to join Preston North End.
“The Championship is a top league as everyone knows and the main thing for me is trying to get game time, and I’m going to be able to do that at a good club. I can’t wait to get started.
“I’m happy to be getting the opportunity to get regular game time in a good league, which is important for me. I just need to work hard and try to play as many games as I can. I think that suits my game because I can score and assist goals, and I like getting at people. Ultimately Preston suited me the best."
Whilst his stint at Deepdale will give the 19-year-old some much-needed experience, it leaves the Reds in a slight conundrum - and one that they will likely turn to the transfer market to solve. Ramsay’s exit leaves Trent Alexander-Arnold as the only recognised right-back in the squad - the former signed as back-up last summer.
Klopp's dream Liverpool line up as last-gasp January transfers rejectedJoe Gomez is capable of deputising in the position but Liverpool will likely want to sign a natural, right-sided defender in the coming months. That need will certainly grow should Alexander-Arnold continue in the new role that he was handed at the back-end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Usefully, Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of defenders that could move to Anfield this summer. Bayern Munich’s Benjamin Pavard is chief among those to have been rumoured to be under consideration.
The Frenchman - capable of playing both on the right and centrally - has just a year left remaining on his contract at the Allianz Arena and could be on the move sooner rather than later. A four-time Bundesliga winner, Pavard made 43 appearances for Bayern this season, scoring on seven occasions.
Elsewhere, Ajax star Jurrien Timber may also be considered by Liverpool. The Dutchman has regularly been linked with a move to the Premier League over the past few seasons.
Manchester United were strongly rumoured to be considering him, whilst he has also opened the door to a move away from Amsterdam this summer. Speaking earlier this week, he said: “Will I stay with Ajax anyway? I’m not sure, I can’t say that.
“I'm not in talks with Ajax now. My agent had a good talk a few times, but it's not like we're talking about anything right now.”
