BGT's Viggo Venn 'embarrassed' and says it's 'not his fault' he won after booing

Britain's Got Talent winner Viggo Venn has admitted that he's "embarrassed" he won the show - but declared that it's "not his fault" as he addressed Sunday night's booing controversy.

During the final at the weekend, the audience were heard booing his unlikely win during a raucuous final.

Appearing on ITV's Lorraine just a day after he pulled out of an appearance on the show, he defended his win to the TV host.

Lorraine began by pointing out: "We need fun, and you are very silly."

"I was kinda hoping I didn't win because it would be so embarrassing but I was very happy when they said it the British public have such sense of ridiculous humour," he admitted.

The winner proceeded to jump up suddenly, mid-interview, and try to eat a fake apple before hugging a picture of Mr Bean.

The Norwegian comedian also made the appearance on Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston's Heart Breakfast show as he spoke about the ITV show's boozy afterparty.

"Me and Bruno picked [Amanda] up in an uber at 6am. It was crazy. We were in Simon Cowell's basement," he said.

Amanda joked: "No one ever goes down there!"

"No one ever comes out," Jamie quipped.

He also admitted that he was so sure that he wouldn't win that he booked a show the day after the final.

"I should never have done that so no, I expected to not win Britain's Got Talent," he admitted.

Asked whether his family watched the show in Norway, he replied: "There's a hilarious video of my dad dancing on stage in Norway... no [they didn't watch it] - officially I would say no. But yeah, people went absolutely nuts."

Hi-vis-wearing Viggo was visibly shocked after he was announced as the winner, nabbing £250,000 and a place on the Royal Variety Show, and went on to race around the stage and knock host Ant McPartlin over.

Controversially, inspirational dancer Musa Motha - whose leg was amputated when he was just 11 years old - failed to get a place in the top three, as did incredible opera singer Malakai Bayoh.

After the result was announced, some of the audience could be heard booing and viewers took to Twitter to give their thoughts.

One tweeted: "Very surprised. But Viggo was very funny. Very distasteful for anyone to boo Viggo. Not his fault he won, people voted for him, not anyone else. Made it a sour end thanks to the audience reaction. Well done, Viggo!!! #BritainsGotTalent #BGT2023 #bgt."

While another tweeted: "Sounded like a lot of boos there when #ViggoVenn was announced as the winner of #BritainsGotTalent. I thought he was great but a shock omissions from the final 3, and I think everyone thought the young lad would win. Bit of a deflated, down-beat end to the series #BGT2023 #BGT."

One raged: "NEVER EVER EVER EVER watching @BGT #BritainsGotTalent again. absolute shambles‼️ a guy running about in a high vis vest over so much proper genuine real talent? the boos in that audience, shocked faces and genuine tears said it all for me‼️ SHAMBLES."

"By a stretch, that is the worst Britain's Got Talent result EVER. If that really is genuine, then the British voting public should be ashamed and embarrassed. Booing from the audience, and rightly so. Some real talent missed out there. Joke. #BGT2023 #BritainsGotTalent #BGT," one fumed.
