Former Leeds coach Jesse Marsch has been backed to become Celtic's new manager as Ange Postecoglou heads towards a potential move to Tottenham.

The charasmatic Australian manager is expected to succeed Antonio Conte as the new incumbent of the hotseat at the North London club, having impressed during his time up in Glasgow with back-to-back Premiership titles. His latest triumph came in the form of the Scottish Cup following a win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle, as the 57-year-old led the Hoops to another historic treble.

Following a tumultuous season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, chairman Daniel Levy will be hoping that the former Yokohama Marinos boss can arrest the slide, following a poor eighth-placed finish. His departure would, of course, also lead to an opening at Celtic Park, with Brendan Rodgers among the names mentioned as potential candidates to fill the post.

One coach who could well be of interest to the powers-that-be at the Glasgow club is Jesse Marsch, with the American currently out of work following his dismissal from the Leeds United job back in February. The former USMNT international was in charge at Elland Road for just under a year and kept them up in his first season at the club.

Interestingly, the 49-year-old actually left the Yorkshire outfit with them sitting in 17th place in the Premier League standings — therefore, outside the relegation zone — with the side eventually finishing five points from safety in 19th position. The former MLS coach certainly boasts a mixed bag of experience, having managed at two clubs in his homeland as well as at Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and RB Leipzig in Germany.

Now the ex-Montreal Impact manager has been tipped for the job at Celtic, with his style of play meaning he would 'tick some boxes' for the Scottish champions. Falkirk midfielder Stephen McGinn told Go Radio: "I think someone like Jesse Marsch, who’s obviously been linked with the Celtic job before.

"He plays that front foot, attacking football which wouldn’t mean wholesale changes in terms of the playing style.

"Because that group of Celtic players, it can’t be someone who goes in and plays off set pieces and goes long. It’s got to be someone who continues this attacking football because many of these players have been recruited with that idea, so he would tick some boxes."

As it stands, Marsch could well be in demand this summer, with a move to take over the reigns of the USMNT also potentially in the offing, according to Goal. In addition, Ligue 1 club AS Monaco may also be keeping tabs on the Wisconsin-born coach's availability, with uncertainty surrounding the future of current manager Philippe Clement following a poor end to the season.

The American also was heavily linked with moves to Southampton and Leicester City following his sacking at Leeds but he would, ultimately, sit out the rest of the season.
