Liverpool are wasting no time as they look to recover from a wretched 2022-23 campaign.

The Reds slumped to a fifth-place finish in the Premier League, meaning that Jurgen Klopp and co will compete in the Europa League for the first time since the German's first season at Anfield. Fortunately, the summer transfer window is just around the corner and Liverpool are braced for a busy few months after appointing new sporting director Jorg Schmadtke.

Klopp has already confirmed that he's planning to rebuild his squad, with transfer targets identified well ahead of time. Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister is chief among them and while his £60million switch could be the biggest move which the Reds make all summer, the Argentine midfielder, 24, might not prove to be the first arrival.

Here's a round-up of the latest news from Anfield.

Obstacle in Thuram deal

Nice owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe's continued attempts to buy Manchester United could pose as an issue for Liverpool's pursuit of Khephren Thuram. The French midfielder, 22, is reportedly the subject of talks between Liverpool and Nice, who are enduring a period of uncertainty while Ratcliffe tries to purchase United.

L'Equipe claim that the French side don't want to sell Thuram, with the club's structure potentially being set to change this summer. The 22-year-old, who's the son of legendary defender Lilian Thuram and the brother of Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram, is interested in a move to Anfield but has also suggested that he'd be happy to stay in the south of France.

Melwood return deal close

Liverpool are close to securing a deal which would see the Reds' women's team use former training ground Melwood as their independent base. In November 2020, Jurgen Klopp and co moved to their brand new £50million AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.

Liverpool Women currently train at Tranmere Rovers' Solar Campus and share the League Two side's stadium, Prenton Park. The Athletic now report that club chiefs are nearing an agreement with affording housing developer Torus, who bought Melwood before teaming up with Reds legends Jamie Carragher and Robbie Fowler in 2021, allowing the pair to retain it for community work.
