Fans have been left devastated after it was announced season three of Euphoria would face further delays.
Following two and a half year gap, we were finally graced with season two of the Zendaya -starring show in January 2022, and the wait for the next instalment will now be until 2025.
HBO's head of drama, Francesca Orsi, told Deadline on Friday that the massive delay to the series and a slew of its other shows was due to the ongoing writer's strike.
Speaking to the outlet, she said: "We are really proud of the exciting return of The Last of Us, House of the Dragon, White Lotus, Euphoria and not to mention The Sympathizer, The Regime, True Detective, and The Idol."
Francesca continued: "While everything at this moment is pencils down, I'm hopeful that we can come to terms sooner than later. Otherwise, we will have to assess what is the end of the 24 schedule, what are the shows that are going to be delivered for 2025.
Zendaya's boyfriend Tom Holland wows with very rare PDA over her awards look"At this point, those shows that I'm looking to air wouldn't necessarily be ready if this strike last six to nine months. So yes, that's a big question for us, but I think we'll cross that road once we come to it."
Speaking directly of Euphoria, Francesca added: "Euphoria is one of those that we had begun writing in tandem with post-production on Idol, but at this point, we don't have countless scripts."
"We can't start shooting, so the delivery of that show — ideally in 2025 — will be determined on when we can pick back up with Sam [Levinson, the show's creator], who at this point is all pencils down and just finishing posts on Idol."
Deadline also reported that as well as the writer's strike, other factors contributing to the show's delay included the show creator Sam Levinson's "commitment to The Idol" and "Zendaya's packed schedule".
As expected, fans were not happy about waiting, with one person tweeting: "This can't be real."
Another added: "Noooooo. I simply cannot wait that long," while a third said: "May as well just cancel the show at this point.
One person debated: "Euphoria allegedly doing a time jump so releasing in 2025 can work but omg but I'm over waiting 2 and half years for new seasons of shows I'm spoiled."
Led by Zendaya, Euphoria explores mature themes and addiction while in a high-school setting.
The show made stars out of the likes of Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, and Sydney Sweeney.
Sydney, in particular, has cemented herself as one of Hollywood's most in-demand actresses. She has signed on to star in a slew of upcoming projects, including the remake of Jane Fonda's 1968 hit movie Barbarella, which she will also executive produce.
