Waterloo Road fans went wild as an iconic character returned to the BBC One show this week.

Viewers were delighted to see the familiar face of deputy head Andrew Treneman, played by actor Jamie Glover.

The character dramatically returned to the fictional Greater Manchester school 16 years after quitting to take a teaching job in Rwanda.

And fans are here for it - with many taking to Twitter to share their delight when Andrew came face-to-face again with his former lover and current headteacher Kim Campbell, played by Angela Griffin.

One wrote: “Actual shriek at the return of main man Andrew Treneman in #WaterlooRoad.”

“Andrew Treneman is back, my life is completed,” another joked.

Even though it had been announced the character was coming back into the series, viewers still couldn’t quite believe their eyes.

“Oh my God Andrew Treneman! I knew he was coming back but I’m still [shock face emoji] #WaterlooRoad.”

Others were keen to see Kim and Andrew rekindle their romance with one saying: “No Kim, it’s never too late for you and Andrew Treneman!”

“I hope Kim Campbell and Andrew Treneman get married. Long term storytelling #WaterlooRoad,” another fan added.

Waterloo Road first aired in 2006 and other big names to have starred on the show include Kym Marsh, Jill Halfpenny, Neil Morrissey and Denise Welch.

It helped launch the career of Jenna Coleman, who went on to star in Doctor Who and ITV ’s Emmy-nominated series Victoria.

Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor also started out as a child actor in the gritty school drama, which was axed in 2015.

But following a revival during lockdown when old episodes were aired on BBC iPlayer, it is back after eight years away.
