Much like it's predecessor, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom once again has you chasing down shooting stars to collect some extremely handy Star Fragments.
Much like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild before it, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is packed with countless things in the distance to grab your attention. One such distraction is the Star Fragments, which were also present in Zelda: Breath of the Wild – so series veterans might be used to them.
In the prior entry these Star Fragments were used as materials to upgrade certain armour sets, which is what they do in Tears of the Kingdom (plus they can still be sold for a pretty 200 Rupees). However, as you've come to expect from this expanded sequel, there's a few more tricks you can perform with the Star Fragments in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Thanks to the Fuse ability, Link can use the light from these Star Fragments to his advantage. Now you could attach it to a bow and shoot it into a dark area like you would a Brightbloom Seed, however, for our money the best use for these Star Fragments (outside of upgrades or selling them) is to attach it to your shield, making a portable torch. This comes in extremely handy in the Depths, and saves you using up your Brightbloom Seeds when trawling the deep dank underground. Here's where you can find Star Fragments
Star Fragment locations are random, as such it's hard to guarantee a specific area to get one, but while we can't give you an exact location we can give you some tips for finding them.
Nintendo Switch 2 release set for next year as Zelda ushers in the end of SwitchThe most obvious place to find a Star Fragment location is to look for a glowing yellow beam of light shooting upwards from the ground (almost like a skinnier version of the markers you can place). When you see one you're going to want to haul yourself over there as fast as you can as these Star Fragments locations don't stay around forever.
Whatever you do, don't use fast travel to transport to the shrine nearest to the Star Fragment location as they will despawn if you do so. You've got to do it the old fashioned way.
To scout out Star Fragment locations we'd recommend taking the high ground at night as not only will you be able to see your surroundings easier, you'll be able to glide over to your destination with the Paraglider.
You'll be able to spot Star Fragments falling out of the sky, which in Zelda: Breath of the Wild is only a minor visual cue, but the game has changed in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom thanks to the Sky Islands. If you see a Star Fragment falling through the sky when you're in this part of the map, launch yourself off the nearest cliff and chase it down to land, or – if you're feeling really spicy – catch one in mid air.
