Koroks are back in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and with 900 of the little blighters in Breath of the Wild, Nintendo fans are keen to find out how many are hiding in the sequel.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild 's Koroks were a charming aspect of the game – if you like obscure environmental puzzles and adorable little creatures springing out at you with a 'Yahaha!'. Breath of the Wild was stuffed with 900 Koroks and they were pretty well hidden throughout the game. But you can bet your butt that if there a practically inaccessible mountain top, there'd be a Korok up there.

Scouring the map for Koroks will net you a reward,. and it's just the one at that. There are some incremental rewards as you amass them, with your inventory being expanded as you collect more. That topped off at the 441 mark though. After that, there are no more benefits, but once you find and discover all 900 Koroks and take the Korok Seeds to Hestu, he rewards you with a giant golden poop. And what are the Korok Seeds you've been collecting? Little poops. As confirmed by Breath of the Wild director Hidemaro Fujibayashi in a 2017 IGN interview.

"We just kind of thought it would be funny to make that a big joke," he told the outlet. "It's just the backstory, the kind of hidden kind of thing in the game the whole way is that the Korok seeds are actually Korok poop."

So if neglecting your heroic duties to find collectibles – no matter their origin – scratch's that gameplay itch for you, you'll want to know the deal with Koroks in Tears of the Kingdom. And if the reward is just as fantastic (or pointless, depending in your point of view).

How many Koroks are there in Tears of the Kingdom and how to find them

The game has only just launched so we don't know exactly how many Koroks are in Tears of the Kingdom just yet. That being said, there were 120 shrines in Breath of the Wild, and that's been bumped up to 152 shrines for the sequel.

Given that, and the trolling factor involved here of players whiling away their time to come away with jack... squat, will Nintendo up the ante? Maybe 1,000 Korok seeds for a nice round number, and an even bigger gilded bowel movement at the end? We'll keep you posted as we get further into the game.

As for where to find Korok seeds in Tears of the Kingdom, anywhere that looks remotely suspicious is a safe bet. A weird and gnarly-looking tree, a particularly prominent mouintain peak – there's probably a Korok there.

Generally speaking, you need to solve puzzles to find the Koroks, and a lot of the ones we saw in Breath of the Wild are back. Balloons, lily pad rings, conspicuous flowers, rock circles or patterns with one missing, tree stumps and more. Oftentimes the missing rocks in a circle act as a marker for the direction the Korok is in.

Thanks to the game design, the environment will be fairly generous with its tells. I imagine there'll be at least as many Koroks in Tears of the Kingdom as there are in Breath of the Wild so keep your eyes peeled!
