Chelsea icon Petr Cech admits it is “sad” seeing the Blues struggle under Frank Lampard after previously quitting his role at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side have endured an awful first full campaign under Todd Boehly since he completed his big-money takeover. Chelsea sit 12th in the Premier League with just five matches of the season still to play.

They are already set for their worst ever season from a points perspective since the establishment of the Premier League. Their rotten form has seen new owner Boehly make a number of bold calls regarding their manager.

Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Bruno Saltor and Frank Lampard have all been at the helm this term. That has not helped with Chelsea in the midst of a six-match losing run since the former midfielder’s return to West London.

Blues icon Cech has given his thoughts on Chelsea’s rotten form this season and is hoping that they get back on track sooner rather than later. Speaking at an event unveiling the latest additions to the Premier League Hall of Fame, the former shot-stopper said: “It's sad to see the club as they are in the table but there is a lot of experienced players and which obviously experience difficult moments in their careers like that.

“I hope Frank Lampard gets with the players and they find solutions for the upcoming games. Sometimes you need just one win or one positive result to turn a corner so hopefully they achieve that.”

Cech was actually still at Chelsea at the start of the campaign. He was previously a technical and performance advisor to the Blues - a role he held since 2019 following a return from Arsenal.

However, he left in the summer as part of a shake-up among the club’s staff following Boehly’s arrival in west London. Speaking at the time, he said: “It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years.

“With the club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside. I am pleased that the club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.”

Meanwhile, Boehly said: “Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best.”

Chelsea are back in action this weekend as they take on Bournemouth on the south coast. They then face Nottingham Forest before a testing run of fixtures against Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle to round off the campaign
