Grand Design fans were left heartbroken for couple Edward and Hazel Short as it was revealed they had split.

The huge project to build and sell Chesil Cliff House, in Croyde, Devon took a toll on their marriage and the pair split amid the decade-long renovation of the 1950s home.

Edward and Hazel's project was deemed the "saddest ever" by viewers as their story featured on the programme.

However, the sad story may finally have a happy ending as the clifftop mansion has been taken off the market, with terms of a sale now being discussed.

The stunning property, which is even said to have caught the eye of Harry Styles, has been on sale for £10 million since July last year.

However, a mystery buyer is reported to have entered sale talks over getting the keys to the Devon pad, the Daily Star has reported.

A spokesperson for real estate agency Knight Frank told the publication: "We are currently discussing terms of a sale with one interested party and, as such, have agreed to remove the property from the open market until further notice."

While a source from the agency added: "When we have a potential buyer it is often the case that a property is removed from the website providing the client is happy to do so while further negotiations take place.

"This does not mean that a property is ‘under offer’. However, once an offer has been accepted the property will then be put back on the website and listed as ’sold’."

Edward first appeared on Grand Designs to showcase the ambitious project in 2019 and explained he had faced a series of hurdles including issues with coronavirus, contractors and financial stress, which have placed the project at a stalemate.

He has accrued a whopping £7 million worth of debt to create the dreamy home after planning to spend just £1.8 million to transform the property.

In 2021, he admitted in an interview: "There’s no point in regrets, but obviously if I had any idea of what it would cost the marriage and my family, I wouldn’t have done it. I had started it; it’s not easy to back out of this."

He added: "There were quite a few days where I looked temptingly at the cliff edge and thought life might be better down there, but that wouldn’t have helped anyone, would it? I couldn’t give up on that image I had of [the house]."

Edward returned to the show in October 2022 and revealed he had bounced back from his troubles.

The impressive pad at Down End Point, a renowned beauty spot in North Devon, includes a four-storey tower from which inhabitants can gaze across the sea and five bedrooms.
