When cherry blossom season is upon us I see it all over my Instagram and the thing that stands out to me above all has to be the snacks. I'm always curious about what the candied cherry blossoms actually taste like, even if I can't find any of them at the Aldi and Sainsbury's near my house.

When I got the chance to try Sakuraco's Moonlit Sakura box, which heavily features cherry blossom snacks in pretty shades of pink I jumped at it. The box arrived really quickly and as I opened it up I couldn't help but notice how aesthetically pleasing it was.

Each box comes with a wide range of 20 snacks and a dish of some sort, in this case it was a small tea glass that you can enjoy the included tea in.

This month's box had a wide selection of pretty pink treats that I assumed would be sweet on my tongue but it wasn't quite the case for all of them. The Mame Mochi are described as having a 'subtle hint of saltiness' but they were about as subtle as a sledgehammer, I couldn't bring myself to swallow it.

It wasn't all bad though, with salty snacks being some people's preferred option. The cream gaufrettes were absolutely delicious, they were both sweet and floral without it being overpowering which made it one of my favourite items.

I think the biggest stand out to me was the Ichigo Roll, this was a cake with a checkerboard design and strawberry flavour that was both soft to the touch and sweet on my tongue. The Gengi Pie was a light crisp biscuit that I think went perfectly with a coffee although you can eat them by themselves.

There were some snacks that really were not to my taste at all, in particular the more savoury options didn't resonate with me as I personally have more of a sweet tooth, and texturally there were a few surprises that I certainly found interesting.

I probably wouldn't subscribe for the annual subscription of these but I think they're a fun one off to share with friends or a great gift option if you've got a friend who particularly loves Japanese snacks.
