A lovestruck woman has launched an appeal to track down a mystery man she accidentally hit with a toilet door.

Eleanor Birch, 32, says she was enjoying Sunday lunch with at The Salt House Kitchen in Seaburn, Sunderland, when she "quite literally" ran into the handsome stranger.

Inadvertently slamming into him with the door, the pair quickly hit it off when he thankfully saw the funny side - but Eleanor has now been left heartbroken after she forgot to ask for his number.

She has since taken to a local Facebook group in the hopes of finding her crush, writing: "You know when a moment passes you by and you realise you should have acted upon it.

"I was on my way to the toilet and pushed open the door and completely bulldozed this bloke in the hallway - he was literally stunned with the force.

"I said, 'What are you doing standing there?' Because he was stood right behind the door, in a bit of stupid place really, and we ended up joking around.

"When he came out the toilet and saw me again he said cheekily, "Have you hit anyone else with the door?"

"I felt a connection with him and we hit it off, quite literally, but I didn't get his number!"

She described the object of her desire as a 5’10 man with dark hair, who was wearing jeans and a T-shirt.

Eleanor, who says she has been single for the past two years, is now hoping members of Fulwell, Roker, Seaburn and Whitburn Community group will be able her 'open the door' to a new romance.

Her efforts appear to be getting off to a good start as her post has attracted hundreds of likes and shares, while local businesses have come forward with offers of free meals, Champagne and pamper sessions.

Reflecting on the huge response to her plea, Eleanor commented: "I feel a real sense of community and it's crazy how many people are trying to help me find him.

"He's probably going to see the post and think, "What the hell?" I hope it doesn't scare him off.

She said that the "best case scenario" is that the message reaches him and the pair end up going out, adding: "What a story to tell if we do!"
