Millions of Samsung Galaxy owners are being advised to check their smartphones for the latest software update and download it without delay. The Korean technology company has just confirmed the release of its April security patch and it's definitely not a upgrade that you want to ignore.

The latest release fixes a total of 55 flaws within the Android operating system with four deemed so serious they have been given the dreaded "critical" rating.

Another 46 are also high priority which means they need to be patched as soon as possible.

If that wasn't enough to have you reaching for your smartphone and tapping the download button there's another reason why this update is so important.

Last month it was revealed that some Samsung phones featured a worrying flaw that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise a phone using the in-built modem.

All a cyber criminal needs is the victim's mobile number which can then be used to compromise the phone without the user knowing anything is wrong.

The issue, which affects some devices powered by Samsung's Exynos processors, was spotted by Google's security team at Project Zero. It was deemed so serious, experts even urged Galaxy users to switch off certain Wi-Fi calling settings until a fix had been pushed out.

Luckily, it now appears that the April software does just that with Samsung's notes confirming that it has mended an error in 3GPP specification implementation in the Exynos baseband.

These are all the devices that were thought to be affected by the glitch: Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy M33, Galaxy M13, Galaxy M12, Galaxy A71, Galaxy A53, Galaxy A33, Galaxy A21, Galaxy A13, Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A04 series phones.

Even if your phone is not mentioned above it's still a good idea to keep it updated especially as this new release fixes so many critical issues. Samsung usually rolls things out slowly across the globe so it's worth checking until you see it on your device.

Here's how to download the patch.

Step 1. Go to Settings > tap Software update.

Step 2. Tap Download and install.

Step 3. If new software is available, you can choose Install now, Schedule install or Later.
