There's nothing quite like cleaning your home top to bottom, and then adding the final touch - a nice big whiff of room spray to really cement the fact that you've gone above and beyond to spring clean. But for some people, room sprays or plug-ins just aren't an option as it causes headaches for them - which is less than ideal.

But this doesn't mean that people need to miss out on their house smelling lovely, as Mrs Hinch fans have suggested a fantastic way to create delightful odours in the home, without the smell of harsh chemicals for sensitive people.

A woman took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook group to ask: "Can anyone tell me how to get that clean house smell without using all the stinky plug-ins and spray fresheners?

"The chemicals tend to give me a headache and I prefer a natural clean smell if you get what I mean."

One cleaning guru wrote: "What about using essential oils and witch hazel to make a natural spray? Spray on carpets and fabric. You can use something like lemongrass or mint for something fresh and not cloying."

Another commented saying that they also get migraines from strong-smelling chemical products, recommending that she just air her home out as much as possible.

"Air defuser with oils", someone else suggested, whilst another said: "Open up all the windows and doors. Sprinkle bicarbonate soda on all carpets and rugs, leave for a while, and then vacuum."

"Essential oils in water in ceramic wax melt burner. You can get natural wax melts made from essential oils in not fake fragrances too", a cleaning guru wrote.
