Danny Dyer will host a brand new reality TV show in which a number of celebrities will be forced to face the unknown by living in the pitch-black accommodation for eight days.

The presenter, 45, is set to host the upcoming series Scared of The Dark, which will see a host of celebrities live in a purpose-built bunker designed to block out any light.

It's been announced that over five successive nights the show - which will air on Channel 4 - will follow the contestants "as they get to grips with living in the dark".

The broadcaster has revealed that in order to leave the bunker - which has been fitted with infrared cameras - the celebrities must shout "I'm scared of the dark".

They will be joined in the bunker by former boxer Nicola Adams, 40, singer Max George, 34, comedian Chris McCausland, 45, and comedian Donna Preston, 36.

The contestants will take on challenges designed to test "either their primal fear of total darkness or their ability to function in the pitch black," it has been announced.

Those who fail at their challenges will have to take on tasks to save their place on the show and only one contestant will step out into the light as the winner at the very end.

Discussing the upcoming project, presenter Danny said: "This is possibly one of the most bizarre things I've ever done in my career, and I have done a lot of mad things."

And teasing over the reality TV show, he added: "It's proper good telly. You're gonna laugh, you're gonna laugh some more and I promise you're gonna love it".

Dr. Tharaka Gunarathne will watch over the celebrities during the experience. He said that one of the most difficult aspects for them is "dealing with the unknown".

He added: "When you can't see, your brain fills in the blanks and often imagines the worse. When you switch off the lights your ability to stay safe is suddenly threatened and that is what makes this particularly frightening".
