Billie Eilish has delighted fans by making her acting debut in Swarm, Donald Glover’s new series for Prime Video.

The show is said to be a horror thriller exploring the themes of extreme fandom, telling the story of Dre (Dominique Fishback), who goes on a murder spree set off by her obsession with Beyonce-esque pop star Ni’Jah.

The seven-part series, which Glover co-created with Janine Nabers, launched on Prime Video today, March 17.

Fans keen to see the full series can watch it free by signing up for a 30-day trial to Prime Video.

Swarm is musician Eilish's first scripted role, although she has previously appeared in documentaries and voiced herself in an episode of The Simpsons.

No information has yet been released about her mysterious character, although the singer reportedly plays a cult leader called Eva.

She posted a snippet of video from the trailer to her Instagram yesterday ahead of the show's launch, quickly racking up more than 2 million likes and hundreds of positive comments from fellow celebrities and fans alike.

According to Entertainment Tonight, Eilish was cast in part as a nod to the sub-culture of music fandoms and followers which she has previously had experience of as performer.

As well as Eilish, who has gone blonde for the role, there is a star studded line up of other actors in the show, including Damson Idris, Byron Bowers, Kiersey Clemons, Paris Jackson and Rory Culkin.

Early reviews have given Swarm a Rotten Tomatoes rating of 83%, with critics praising Dominique Fishback's performance and the bold creativity of the show.
