Arsenal fan and legendary jockey AP McCoy could not resist aiming a dig at former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane after spotting him at the Cheltenham festival.

Keane was seen taking part in the presentation ceremony after Energumene had won the Queen Mother Championship Chase on Wednesday. And McCoy left his ITV colleagues in stitches when he quipped: "Ex-Tottenham player... he's never been on a winning podium before has he?"

Keane was in fact part of the Tottenham side that won the 2008 League Cup, beating Chelsea 2-1 in the final after extra-time, and the forward was quick to remind McCoy of that fact off-air.

A few minutes after his quip, McCoy told viewers he had spoken to Keane who reminded of the League Cup win and the former jokey admitted his mistake. McCoy is a diehard Arsenal supporter and remembers watching them lift the 1979 FA Cup after beating Manchester United 3-2 in the final.

"I suppose you could justifiably call me a glory hunter," McCoy told football.london in 2019 of his fandom. "I'm not a good watcher, I don't like the idea of not being in control.

"I get very nervous as I can't do anything about it and my temper is not good either. And I know everything, a typical fan as I know it all."

Keane, meanwhile, was present at Cheltenham as part of his role as a brand ambassador for Betway, who sponsor the Champion Chase. Since his retirement from playing in 2018, Keane has moved into coaching and worked as assistant manager at both Middlesbrough and the Republic of Ireland national team.

While he is currently out of work, Keane says he would "love to be a manager" next. In an appearance on the 'We are Liverpool' podcast, he revealed: "I love helping young players [with] coaching. I'd definitely love to be a manager at some stage, I'd definitely love to give that a go.

"I definitely think it will happen at some stage but it's just picking the right one and getting the right opportunity. That's why I wouldn't be frightened to go abroad. If the right opportunity came up – whether that be in the MLS or abroad somewhere – I'd definitely give it a go."
