Moment 'knife gang hurl mannequins at each other' in Selfridges brawl

This is the moment two groups hurled mannequins at each other as a mass brawl erupted in the middle of Selfridges.

CCTV footage showed the gangs fighting in the toilet, in the corridor, and then chasing each other around the displays at the department store in Oxford Street.

Ryheem Lindsay, 20, and 22-year-old Bryan Carvalho were stabbed in the leg after allegedly being involved in the fight on May 8, 2021.

Marlon Duggan, 38, Maliq Knox-Hooke-Campbell, 22, Javani Best, 23, Kemani Duggan, 21, and Andre Deer, 20, were also said to be embroiled in the brawl, heard Southwark Crown Court.

Robert Brown, prosecuting, described the incident as a "completely unnecessary outbreak of violence between two groups" at Selfridges.

He said members of the gang involved in the brawl arrived in a black Mercedes driven by Deer.

CCTV showed that Carvalho and his brother were approached by the group and a confrontation ensues.

Mr Brown said: "Kamani Duggan picks up a mannequin and throws it at Bryan Carvalho.

"The video appears to show that Bryan Carvalho has a knife in his right hand."

A member of the group tried to separate Carvalho and his brother from the other defendants.

Best is then seen running toward Carvalho with a rope, as other gang members tried to stop him.

Kemani Duggan tried to chase after Carvalho, and a violent brawl broke out in the toilet corridor.

Carvalho was kicked to the ground by Knox-Hooke-Campbell, causing him to fall to the ground.

"While on the ground, he was kicked by Maliq Knox-Hooke-Campbell, Andre Deer, Marlon Duggan, and another male," said Mr Brown.

Both Lindsay and Carvalho were treated for stab wounds in their leg at the Whittington Hospital.

The prosecutor added that members of the public were "in fear for their own safety because of the actions of these defendants".

Charlotte Lloyd, a manager in the beauty section at Selfridges, said in a statement read to the court: "I saw two boys pushing and shouting at each other.

"I said they would have to calm down or leave the store. They ignored me as if I wasn't there.

"The group started to walk towards Dior. Some walked towards the men's toilets."

She said she then saw a youth throw a backpack at the group.

"There was a lady filming the incident. I asked her to stop. The group continued to walk towards the men's toilets.

"So many of them were all on top of each other near the entrance of the toilets."

Ms Lloyd said she saw a male "aged around 16" with a knife tucked in his sock, and told the group once again to leave.

The worker said she then spotted a man on the floor with blood on his body and face.

"I asked him if he was hurt. He didn't answer. I asked him to sit up. Again, nothing. The whole incident lasted around one minute."

Lindsay, of Dalston, east London and Carvalho, of New Southgate, both deny wounding with intent and having a bladed article.

The pair, alongside Best, of Haringey, Deer, of Borehamwood, Knox-Hooke, of Haringey, and the two Duggans, also of Haringey, all deny violent disorder.

Lindsay has been deemed unfit to stand trial and so the jury will have to find whether he did the act rather than find him guilty or not guilty.

The trial continues.
