Afternoon TV favourite A Place in the Sun has been taken off the Channel 4 schedule and replaced with two other programmes.

The popular property hunting show was not on screens last night and won't be aired tonight (10 March) either.

A Place in the Sun has been on our screens since 2000 and sees prospective buyers head abroad in search of a new home in a warmer climate.

It is usually aired between 3 and 4pm on weekdays and features much loved presenters including Jonnie Irwin and Laura Hamilton.

Yet the show has been replaced with a live broadcast from dog show Crufts.

With presenter Clare Balding at the helm, the dog programme will be on screens at the same time A Place in the Sun usually airs.

Next week, A Place in the Sun will not be broadcast either.

From Monday (13 March), Tool Club will be shown instead during the same time slot.

It will see experts Max McMurdo, Julia Miller-Osborn and Jess Grizzle help people gain skills and confidence to take on DIY challenges.

It is currently unclear when A Place in the Sun will return to TV screens.

A Channel 4 spokesperson said: “The most recent series of A Place In The Sun has finished but viewers can enjoy the world famous Crufts today, followed by the brilliant new series Tool Club. A Place In The Sun will return to screens in April or can be enjoyed on 4seven every day before then.”

The news comes after presenter Jonnie Irwin, 49, returned to the hit show as he battles terminal cancer.

The father-of-three was given six months to live in 2020 after doctors found his lung cancer had sadly spread to his brain.

Jonnie has admitted he 'doesn't know how long he has left', but wowed fans when he appeared at A Place in the Sun's live show in Manchester on Sunday.
