Home and Away's Johnny Ruffo, 34, gives heartbreaking update on terminal cancer

Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo has shared an update with fans this week, revealing that he is undergoing further treatment after being diagnosed with terminal brain cancer.

The actor, 34 - who is best known for playing Chris Harrington on the Australian soap - had initially been diagnosed with brain cancer back in 2017.

It was reported in 2019 that he was cancer-free, but Johnny announced in 2020 that it had returned. It's since been revealed that he's been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

In his latest social media post, Johnny took to Instagram to share the latest on his journey as he revealed he was back in hospital.

Johnny, who has undergone rounds of chemotherapy over the last few years, appeared to be preparing to have another round of the treatment in the photo.

The actor - who rose to fame on The X Factor Australia in 2011 - wrote in the caption: "Back in my favourite chair." He used hashtags that said "I hate this chair" and "f*** cancer".

The post has amassed more than 17,000 likes on the platform, with a number of his followers taking to the comments section to express well-wishes to Johnny.

Johnny wrote in a post in December last year that he had completed another year of chemotherapy and would be having "a few weeks break" over the festive period.

He wrote: "Another year of chemotherapy done. It wasn't easy but I made it through. Can't wait to have a few weeks break over Christmas and spend some well earned time with my family".

He shared other photos of himself in the hospital chair last year, including in November. He wrote alongside a photo that month: "Powering through another round of chemo".

It was first announced that Johnny had cancer in 2017. He underwent an emergency operation that year to remove a brain tumour, after going to the doctors with a migraine.

He shared updates with his followers as he received treatment, including radiotherapy, following the diagnosis.

He said on The Project last year: "At some point it will get me but I'm still fighting. [...] Looking up my diagnosis and my tumour, the average life expectancy was three years."
