Parking fines can be one of the greatest banes of owning a vehicle. Admittedly, motorists make mistakes on the road and face the repercussions, but it's incredibly frustrating when they unknowingly make simple mistakes.

Taking to popular forum Mumsnet, a woman fumed over her hefty £100 parking fine for simply parking one wheel over a white line. Regretfully, she admitted that she noticed the parking error but thought the fault was too small to need correcting.

The woman explained: "I went to a car park and my four-year-old went bats*** on the way in. I quickly parked and got her out and calmed her down."

She went on: "I looked at the car, and one wheel was on the white line.

"To be honest, I couldn't be bothered with putting my daughter back and re-parking so I just dashed into the shop.

"Came out give minutes later and found a ticket on my car for £100.

"I got home and appealed it but got a standard letter back saying appeal has been denied, but with no rationale.

"I assume they send the same wording to everyone. There's no way of contacting them.

"My options are pay for the fine now or appeal to the ombudsman but run the risk of paying more if that's denied."

Seeking advice, she questioned: "Would you appeal or just (begrudgingly) pay?"

Flocking to the comment section, Mumsnet users shared their advice over the parking nightmare - but admitted she's likely to pay up for her fault.

One person wrote: "If you broke the terms of parking there then there is no point in appealing so check to see if you did."

A second said: "I once parked correctly but went over the free time limit. It was only a quid if I'd put money in the machine but I thought I'd be back in time. I wasn’t. Cost me £100. My mistake, the signs were clear. Your mistake, you pay."

"You say that you knew you parked incorrectly and decided to risk a fine. It's a gamble that didn't pay off but it was your choice. I think you have to pay."
