Gary Neville has taken aim Antonio Conte and questioned what club would even appoint the Italian if he walks away from his post as Tottenham boss.

The former Manchester United defender did not hold back in his assessment of the issues currently plaguing Spurs and their manager's demeanour, shortly after Monday night's 1-0 away win over Fulham courtesy of Harry Kane's first-half goal. The strike means the Tottenham talisman equalled Jimmy Greaves' record as the club's all-time top scorer with 266 goals.

It was a much-needed victory that Conte will hope serves as the foundation to kickstart his side's charge for a top four finish this term. Spurs currently sit three points adrift of Manchester United in fourth having played one game more than the Red Devils, but the North Londoners have won just two of their six league games since domestic football resumed following the World Cup. That has led to increased scrutiny on ex-Chelsea and Inter Milan boss Conte.

That isn't something the former Juventus boss has always dealt particularly well with and he has regularly appeared to take aim at the club itself, claiming it would be a "miracle" if Spurs were to qualify for the Champions League this season, while also calling for a realistic approach from fans.

However, Neville has rejected Conte's apparent sense of superiority and claimed there aren't any better clubs that would be willing to hire the former Italy national team coach.

"There’s all these rumours coming out that he’s unhappy at the club, that he won’t sign his new contract," Neville told Sky Sports. "I look at that and I think Tottenham are very lucky to have Antonio Conte - he got him into the Champions League last season, he ’s doing that job that to be fair they wanted, they’re only a few points off the Champions League.

"But for Conte’s point of view, what club is he going to get currently that is better than Tottenham Hotspur?

Neville also went on to explain how Conte can have no complaints when it comes to the financial backing he has received from those running the club during his reign.

"It’s £190million worth of signings in two windows - and that doesn’t include Kulusevski, who’s still on loan technically. £200million, so the idea that Spurs haven’t supported him is wrong, it’s a myth.

"I think both them [Antonio Conte and Tottenham] should go and shake hands tomorrow, sign a deal and get themselves right because in some ways it’s like they’re wandering down the road aimlessly as if they’re not mates."
