Rod Stewart reveals heart surgery after latest concert cancellation

Sir Rod Stewart has revealed his ‘unforeseen medical procedure’ that forced him to cancel more shows was actually heart surgery.

The Maggie May singer had been forced to cancel yet another gig, this time at the Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati over the weekend.

The show was scrapped hours before doors opened with Sir Rod, 81, now confirming he had a ‘routine coronary stent procedure’.

A statement shared on his Instagram read: ‘Following further medical evaluation, Sir Rod Stewart has successfully undergone a routine coronary stent procedure.

‘Doctors are pleased with his recovery, and Rod is doing very well and has returned to his normal daily activities.

‘On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage. Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates.’

Rod added: ‘I’m deeply disappointed to miss these shows and sorry to let my fans down, but I look forward to getting back on stage and having a good time with you all again soon.’

The venue explained: ‘Due to an unforeseen but minor medical procedure that required prompt attention, Rod Stewart’s performance tonight in Cincinnati has been postponed.’

Adding that rescheduling was underway, the venue assured fans all previously purchased tickets would be honoured for the new date.

‘Rod is expected to make a quick recovery and looks forward to returning to Cincinnati.’

The cancellation comes just two months after Sir Rod almost fainted on stage, needing an oxygen tank mid-show.

In June, he axed two shows in his Las Vegas residency, citing a sinus infection that left him in need of vocal recovery.

He was then seen relying on an oxygen tank to get through another performance in Utah as concern grew around his health.

When he returned to stage, Sir Rod told the crowd:  ‘I’m going to drink to health. It’s been most enjoyable, but we’ve still got a long way to go.’

For one cancellation, the official statement clarified he had been diagnosised with an acute respiratory infection that resulted in laryngitis.

Sir Rod angered fans when he scrapped a show 40 minutes before it was due to start, but was seen the next day cheering on Scotland at the Men’s World Cup, with his sons and wife.

He admitted it ‘wasn’t a good look’ but wanted to go for his two sons, Alastair, 20, and Liam, 31, who he didn’t want to ‘let down’.

‘No, I got an awful… I really shouldn’t have gone to the Haiti game,’ he told Jim White on talkSPORT. ‘You know, I had to cancel a show the night before because I just had no voice left.

‘I promised them since they were born that we were going to go to a World Cup. And this is the first one that’s come about.’

So far, Sir Rod has not shared an update on his most recent health issue. At least there’s no World Cup match for him to head to this time.

The Glastonbury Legend has had some heartwarming family news recently though, as his daughter Ruby welcomed her second son with fiancé Jake Kalick.

Ruby, who already has son Otis, wrote on Instagram:  ‘We welcomed our little (big) Levi Rhodes Kalick at 6:58pm on 8/4/26 at 9lbs 20inches…. His name Levi means My Heart and his arrival has grown our hearts to 10 times the size…’

She called her sons meeting for the first time the ‘greatest experience of my life so far.’

‘Otis is already the best big brother and we are already so in love with this sweet boy… Welcome sweet Levi!’ she said.

Sir Rod previously called being a grandfather an ‘indescribable’ joy but has not publicly commented on the newborn yet.
