How do you fancy sitting at home in the dark AGAIN - and getting paid for the privilege?

Hot on the heels of yesterday's planned blackout, the National Grid are further encouraging users to cut back their energy, warning supplies are 'tighter than normal'.

Around 26 energy firms - including British Gas, EDF, Eon and Octopus Energy - have signed up for the 'blackout' between 4.30pm until 6pm this evening.

The National Grid is continuing its Demand Flexibility Service (DFS) which rewards households for reducing their energy consumption.

The scheme was launched in November last year as a way of saving energy supplies when national demand is at its highest and this is the second time it has been activated.

The National Grid says it will run until March 31 of this year, and expects it to be repeated each winter going forward.

To be a part of tonight's scheme, you will need to have a smart meter in your home and must have signed up through your energy firm.

If you have already signed up, you should have received a notification from your provider informing you about the event tonight.

Does the idea appeal to you? Are you willing to sit in the dark and get paid for it to help the National Grid? Take our poll above and expand on your answer in the comments below.
