Asylum seeker jailed for 10 years after raping 18-year-old girl in Nottinghamshire park
A sick asylum seeker who raped an 18-year-old girl in a park then asked “did you enjoy that?” has been jailed.
Sheraz Malik, 28, launched into the terrifying attack in Sutton-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire as the victim shouted “no, no, no”.
The girl had been drinking with her friend in the park when Malik and a group of other men came over and joined them.
Malik then dragged her by the hair to a “secluded” area where he raped her.
The fiend has now been jailed for ten years after he was found guilty of two counts of rape following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court.
It previously emerged Malik is an asylum seeker who was born in Pakistan and lived in Italy, Germany, and France before coming to the UK.
A reporting restriction was put in place in September last year preventing any mention of the defendant’s immigration status until the trial had concluded.
Judge Nirmal Shant imposed the restriction until the end of the case to avoid a “substantial risk of prejudice to the administration of justice”.
The court heard the teen was “drunk and obviously vulnerable” when she was approached by Malik in June last year.
Her friend had asked him and his group to “look after her” while he went to meet someone.
But Malik raped her then sickeningly asked her: “Did you enjoy that?”
The predator later spun a web of lies – claiming the victim had consented to sex and that she told him “I really like you”.
But in her harrowing evidence, the girl told the court: “I was scared, I felt scared of saying no.”
Detective Inspector Nicole Milner said: “This was a large-scale investigation with multiple lines of enquiry. This remains a priority investigation for Nottinghamshire Police and work is underway to locate a further outstanding suspect.
“As is always the case for investigations of this nature, there are many people involved and they have all played a part to bring Malik to justice.
“Above all, I also want to acknowledge the bravery and resilience of the victim.
“She has shown great courage throughout and helped us to build a very strong case against Malik, whose version of events lacked credibility from the start.
“As a result of her evidence, the jury was able to see through his lies and to convict him on two counts of rape.
“We will now continue with our relentless pursuit of the other suspect identified in this case.”
