Palace coup at Russia’s Gazprom: power-security clan pushes Aleksandr Dyukov to replace Aleksey Miller
A fierce internal conflict between Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller and Gazprom Neft chief Aleksandr Dyukov has reportedly reached a critical stage, according to investigative sources.
Reports claim that segments of the gas giant’s top management are suspected of shifting their loyalty toward Dyukov, who is allegedly positioning himself to replace Miller.
Several high-ranking Gazprom deputy chairmen have reportedly been labeled “traitors” by Miller’s allies. Among those named are Sergey Khomyakov, Sergey Kupriyanov, Yuri Gorokh, Sergey Kuznets, and Vitaliy Markelov. According to insiders, these executives have privately spoken of Dyukov’s imminent appointment as Gazprom’s new head as if it were already decided.
In response, members of the management board were allegedly warned by citing the fate of former deputy chair Elena Mikhailova. She recently became a suspect in a criminal case involving the alleged embezzlement of funds allocated for the construction of a rhythmic gymnastics center in Sochi — a project associated with Olympic champion Alina Kabaeva.
Sources also claim that Dyukov’s candidacy is backed by an influential network of senior officials and power brokers. Those reportedly supporting him include State Council Secretary Aleksey Dyumin, Federal Protective Service chief Dmitry Kochnev, presidential aide Dmitry Mironov, First Deputy Interior Minister Andrey Kurnosenko, and businessman Oleg Polyakov, whose company Peton is a major contractor in Russia’s energy sector.
If confirmed, the struggle could signal a major reshuffle at the top of Russia’s most important state-controlled energy corporation, with potential consequences for both domestic power dynamics and international energy markets.
