“I ran for my life”: Married At First Sight star recounts Bondi Beach terror attack that killed 12

Reality TV personality Lauren Dunn, who appeared on Married At First Sight Australia, said she “ran for her life” after gunmen opened fire during a terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney, which left at least 12 people dead and dozens injured.

The attack occurred on Saturday evening during a public gathering marking the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, attended by more than 1,000 people. According to New South Wales Police, two attackers opened fire near Archer Park, close to the Bondi Pavilion, shortly before 6:50pm local time.

Police confirmed that one attacker was shot dead, while a second suspect is in custody. Authorities are investigating whether a third offender may have been involved. Among those killed was London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger.

Dunn, who recently moved to the Bondi area, said she initially thought the gunshots were a car backfiring before seeing people running and hearing police orders to take cover. She managed to reach her apartment safely, while friends nearby witnessed scenes she described as “dead bodies everywhere” via video messages.

At least 29 people were injured, including two police officers, and taken to hospitals across Sydney. Police also located suspicious items, including what is believed to be an improvised explosive device.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns confirmed the incident was a targeted terrorist attack against Sydney’s Jewish community, calling it “a horrifying act of violence” on a day meant for celebration.

Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said the attack had been formally declared a terrorist incident, granting investigators expanded powers as the investigation continues.
