Former ‘I’m a celebrity’ contestant Lord Brocket accused of multiple sexual offences
Lord Brocket appeared in court yesterday after being charged with two counts of rape.
Also known as Charlie Brocket, the peer and business owner, was a contestant on I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! in 2004. He placed fourth in the show’s third series, which was won by Kerry Katona.
Aged 73, the TV personality, whose full name is Charles Nall-Cain Brocket, was arrested on Friday.
He is accused of assaulting the same woman on two occasions. His charges are one count of sexual assault by penetration on May 5 in the village of Warbleton, East Sussex, and two counts of rape in London on August 10.
Lord Brocket, who lives in Fulham in the West London borough, attended Westminster Magistrates’ Court this weekend, where he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, and address in a brief hearing.
There, the allegations against him were outlined by prosecutor Aarya Mishra.
While Lord Brocket was not asked to enter pleas to any of the charges, which must be tried at the Crown Court, Henry Milner, defending, was heard saying: ‘The allegations are all denied.’
He has been instructed to attend Isleworth Crown Court on September 26 for his next hearing.
Until then, he has been granted bail by district judge Louisa Cieciora, the conditions of which include a GPS tag-monitored exclusion from going within the M25.
His alleged victim, who cannot be named, is ‘being supported by specialist officers’, as confirmed by a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
The force’s previous full statement read: ‘Brocket was arrested on Friday 29 August on suspicion of rape and charged on Saturday 30 August.
‘The rape charges relate to an incident involving a woman that took place in the early hours of Saturday 10 August in Fulham. The matter was reported to police the same day.
‘The sexual assault by penetration charge relates to an incident on Monday 5 May in Warbleton, East Sussex.
‘The victim is being supported by specialist officers.’
Following his stint in the Australian jungle, alongside campmates Peter Andre and Jennie Bond, Lord Brocket soared in popularity.
Having been inundated with lucrative offers, he went on to pen the bestselling autobiography, Call Me Charlie.
His other projects have included hosting the ITV game show Scream! If You Want To Get Off and Privates Exposed, a behind-the-scenes show for ITV2’s Lads Army.
