Sad discovery on Cleveland Road: human remains found in Lytham are likely from children

Police were contacted at 12:37 PM on August 15 with a report that builders working on Cleveland Road, Lytham, Lancashire, had discovered what they believed to be bones, according to Fylde Police.

The remains have since been confirmed as human, and investigations have led police to believe that "they may belong to children and that this is an isolated historical burial," police added.

DI Andrew Crook of West CID stated: "This is an incredibly sad discovery, and we are continuing our inquiries to establish the identity of the remains, including their age and cause of death.

"While we are keeping an open mind, I want to make it clear that we are not treating this as suspicious. We believe at this stage that the burial is a historic one."

He added: "We would like to thank the homeowners and contractors for their patience while our investigations were ongoing at the property."

The remains have now been removed from the property, and inquiries will continue in an attempt to identify them, police stated.

Police have asked anyone with information that could assist in identifying them to get in touch via 101 quoting log 0616 of August 15.
