Girl, 11, tragically dies after incident on River Lynher in Cornwall
North Yorkshire police also report the discovery of a body in a river during the search for a missing 12-year-old boy
An 11-year-old girl has died after an incident in the water at a beauty spot in Cornwall, while police searching for a missing 12-year-old boy in North Yorkshire have found a body in a river.
Emergency services were called to Wacker Quay on the Lynher River near Torpoint, Cornwall, at about 6pm on Saturday after being alerted about a person in the water, police said.
Officers said the girl, from South Devon, was recovered and given emergency treatment but was confirmed dead at the scene. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall police said: “Her next of kin have been informed and will be supported by specialist officers.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
It came as North Yorkshire police said a body had been recovered from the River Swale in Richmond at 10.45pm on Saturday during a search for a missing 12-year-old boy.
Police launched a search after reports that the boy had entered the river at about 5pm. A police statement said: “The body is yet to be identified but the boy’s family have been informed and are receiving support from specially trained officers.”
