Paul Hollywood has requested information after his younger brother was kicked in the face in a “nasty and unprovoked” attack while walking his dog.

The Great British Bake Off star, 58, shared an online appeal by Merseyside Police which explained how a man was punched to the ground and kicked in the face after his dog and the attacker’s dog started barking at each other.

In a post on Instagram, Hollywood stated that his younger brother Lee, 54, was “the person in question who was attacked”.

He then asked his 670,000 followers to share “any information” regarding the incident in Leasowe, Wirral, with the police.

Merseyside Police said the victim was walking his dog in Links View Playing fields at around 7.10pm on Friday when his dog and a dog being walked by another man barked at each other.

“The dogs were separated by the other male who then became irate,” a force spokesman said.

“As the man walked away, he was approached from behind and punched to the floor by the male. He was then kicked in the face and back before the male made off.

“The man suffered injuries to his back and face and was taken to hospital for treatment.”

Star’s brother ran bakery business

An investigation is under way, with officers seeking any witnesses and CCTV footage which may be helpful.

Det Insp Phil Ryan said: “This was a nasty and unprovoked assault which left the man needing hospital treatment.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Links View Playing fields or Shackleton Road at around 7pm on Friday who heard or saw the incident, or saw the male leaving the area to contact us.”

Lee Hollywood pursued a baking career like his brother, but in 2020 his Wirral-based bakery firm Born & Bread went into administration.

In the same year, he was admitted to hospital with Covid-19.

“He was struggling breathing for a bit,” Paul said on his podcast Hollywood and Byrne in 2020. “He was hospitalised. He felt this weight on his chest.”

The star added: “I was panicking ‘My brother is in hospital is he all right?’ I couldn’t get hold of him.”
