Trump says he wants to become Pope and posts photo of himself in white cassock
U.S. President Donald Trump has posted an edited image of himself as the Pope.
The photo, shared on his social media platform Truth Social, shows Trump wearing a papal tiara and white cassock, seated as if presiding in the Vatican.
On April 30, Trump told reporters he would like to become the next Pope.
“I would love to be the Pope. That would be my number one choice,” he stated.
The conclave of cardinals to elect the new Pope is scheduled for May 7. The winner must secure two-thirds of the vote from the 138 cardinals.
According to the rules of the Holy See, the election of a new Pope must begin no sooner than 15 and no later than 20 days after the previous pontiff’s passing. Pope Francis died on April 21 at the age of 88. His funeral took place on April 26.
